How To Remove Lock Nut From Kitchen Faucet

  • #i

I'm having an impossible fourth dimension removing a 16-year-one-time Moen M7800 kitchen faucet. It's to be completely replaced, so it doesn't matter if it gets damaged in the procedure.

Hither'south the principal trouble: rather than there existence three lines (hot, cold, spray) that run through the central hole in the sink, there is a i cardinal copper threaded line, with copper piping extensions for all three connections soldered to the base of that.

So there is only i rather large fixture attaching it to the underside of the sink, with a single metal washer and nut. The nut is about 1 3/eight - 1.v inches diameter, and due to it'southward size, a basin wrench won't go around it. Due to it's age, it's corroded. Information technology'south in backside the eye of a double sink, and hard to get a good grip with enough force with anything big enough to get around the nut.

My local big box hardware shop suggested spraying it with PB Blaster and giving it a go, fifty-fifty whacking it with a hammer to loosen it. I've washed all that, but with no luck and then far.

Oh, the garbage disposal is out, and then there is a fleck more room to move around under at that place. It's existence replaced also, and then it'due south gone and then I could get at the faucet.

If I could just get this nut off, I could be on with the rest of the project! Has anyone else come across this? Cheers for whatever advice and suggestions.

That doesn't wait that corroded. At that place are basin wrenches, and and so at that place are basin wrenches.

faucet

Fifty-fifty if you lot get it "loose" you volition accept a problem unless you lot have someone to hold the top while yous struggle with the nut. Apply a drill bit and drill on both sides of the nut. Information technology volition and then "fall off".

"Teflon tape helps you get a watertight seal on threaded pipe joints. It likewise helps lubricate the connexion, making the threading a bit smoother, and it helps to prevent pipes from sticking when you want to disassemble the joint."

It would not serve whatever purpose to put TPFE tape on the thread.

Record is the well-nigh misused production in plumbing. So many times when I get called out for a leak, it'due south just a thing of removing tape that should take never been used. It's very rare for whatsoever DIY or homeowner plumbing that would ever need tape.

Flex supply lines for faucets? They come with seals on the ends already.
Water heater flex? They also come up with seals.
Bathtub drains? The seal is made with the safe washer between the shoe and the tub.
Pinch stops? Nope, the seal is made with the ferrule.

Direct threads don't need tape, it sometimes prevents the nut from threading up all the fashion.

You can use tape on tapered threaded pipage if you are threading on a plumbing fixtures. A affair that a homeowner volition almost never do.
